Courage Ride Silent Auction
Check out the popular Courage Ride Silent Auction at Big Grove Brewery and Taproom.
After you get checked in for your ride and enjoy a great breakfast with live music, be sure to check out our silent auction. The auction begins at 8:00am and ends at 4:00pm. Check out all of the great items donated from local businesses, organizations, and artisans. We are sure you will find something you'd like to bid on.
All silent auction proceeds go to the Sarcoma Cancer Research Program at the University of Iowa Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Protect Your Skin. Please Use Your Sunscreen.
Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States. Melanoma is the deadliest form of skin cancer and can develop anywhere in the body (mouth, nails, scalp, internal organs, etc) not just on the surface of the skin. Everyone is at risk-it doesn’t discriminate by age, race, or gender. Because melanoma is aggressive, monthly self-skin exams and yearly professional exams are recommended for early detection. Every hour of every day, someone dies of melanoma. Get your skin checked!
Steps to Reduce Risk
Because 90% of melanoma cases are linked to UV exposure, limit your time outdoors and DO NOT use indoor tanning devices (there is no such thing as a safe tan, regardless of what the tanning salon tells you). Incorporate these prevention tips into your daily routine to decrease your skin cancer risk and keep your skin looking healthy and young.
Do not burn. Ever.
Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 (higher SPFs don’t necessarily provide better protection).
Apply sunscreen 20 minutes before you actually need it.
Apply a shot-glass amount of sunscreen to your body every 2 hours (or sooner if swimming or sweating).
Wear long sleeves and pants, wide-brimmed hats, and sunglasses.
Enjoy the outdoors in the SHADE!
Plan activities in the early morning or late afternoon when UV rays aren’t as strong.
